Who Are We… What We Believe

The Lewiston Republican Committee is comprised of residents of Lewiston, Maine who are registered Republicans and who share a desire to contribute toward the goal of returning the City of Lewiston to greatness. This task is a challenge in a city dominated by political stereotypes and dismissive attitudes. However, the Republican party at a grassroots level (especially here in Lewiston), is a diverse and energetic party on the move!

But what is Republicanism? In today’s culture, this question is huge. What do Republicans really believe? What do they stand for? Where does the National GOP stand in comparison to local Republican Groups, and regular Americans like you, or your neighbors? These questions are extremely important, and deserve honest answers without filler or hypocrisy.

Within the party we have a variety of political philosophies ranging from Libertarianism to Social Conservatism with all shades in-between. The Party of Ronald Reagan is also the party of Barry Goldwater, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. shared the ideology of many of today’s Republicans here in Lewiston, and while many issues facing Lewiston today only seem to add a layer of fog to those seeking solutions, the grassroots Republican movement recently reborn in Lewiston is something far different than the establishment GOP machine you might read about in Augusta or Washington, D.C. Change must always start local.
